IP Boutique Firm Seeking Patent Prosecution Attorney - Alexandria, VA
An established intellectual property boutique based in Alexandria, VA is seeking a Patent Prosecution Attorney to join its growing team. The firm represents a global client base including Fortune 500 companies, emerging tech startups, and research institutions. This position focuses on preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications in a variety of technical fields, particularly electrical, computer, and mechanical technologies.
Offer:
$130,000 - $175,000 annual base salary depending on experience, with discretionary performance bonuses

Qualifications:
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
USPTO registration in good standing
2+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, preferably in an IP-focused law firm
Technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or mechanical engineering
Strong academic credentials and superior writing and analytical skills
Experience with foreign filings, office action responses, and portfolio strategy is preferred
Responsibilities:
Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and international authorities
Conduct prior art searches, freedom-to-operate analyses, and patentability assessments
Collaborate with inventors and in-house counsel to develop IP strategies aligned with business goals
Communicate effectively with domestic and international clients on patent matters and application progress
Support post-grant proceedings, due diligence, and portfolio management when needed
Stay current on legal developments in patent law and emerging technologies
